Studying on Other Continents

Avenues promises its students the skills, experiential opportunities and exposure to cultures and values that will make them not only attractive college applicants but more importantly, productive and successful global citizens. Among the most distinguishing features of Avenues is the concept of one school with 20 or more campuses in major cities around the world. Once realized, this system will allow fluid exchanges between campuses of students and teachers, as well as a full range of interactive collaborations.

Starting in the middle grades, Avenues offers, but does not require, multiple overseas learning opportunities with initial focus on China, Latin America and Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Of varying lengths, these programs are highly integrated into Avenues’ World Course, with both preparation and post-experience review central to the experiences.

Avenues’ approach to study abroad is to inspire students to be “at ease beyond their borders” and purposely designed so the international experience does not stand alone. For the international experience to be truly meaningful, it has to be connected to the students’ learning before and after the actual experience Avenues’ international programs thus have strong preparation and post-trip experience required for participation.

Since the opening of Avenues New York in 2012, Avenues students have taken school-sponsored trips to Costa Rica, Morocco, Spain, Ecuador and China. For more information, please see Global Journeys.

Initially these programs are designed and supervised by Avenues but conducted in conjunction with other organizations abroad. As additional Avenues campuses open around the world, the programs will be at those facilities.

Avenues will offer its students international experiences ranging from multi-week exposure trips to semester exchanges.
